Or So They Say

A man cannot have and eat his cake
A sow's ear will not a silk purse make
Cabbages should not twice be put to boil
Too many cooks the broth will spoil
Better to have lost in love than not loved at all
And pride comes before a fall

New tricks can't be taught to a dog that is old
A warm heart betrayed by a hand that is cold
Chopping off your nose, your face it will spite
The bark of a dog is much worse than it's bite
Just like lambs that are brought to the slaughter
And blood is thicker than water

Home is where you will find the heart
A fool and his money are easy to part
Better the devil that you already know
For what you will reap is what you sow
And neither a lender nor borrower be
Though worse things happen at sea
